It’s That time of year again, the temperature is dropping, and the air is dry. These weather conditions make for a winter wonderland, but can also make for a winter nightmare. Winter months are the highest months for fires. While some of us tend to enjoy the cold we still depend of heating our homes to survive these harsh months. Unfortunately, the high cost of heating our homes we tend to turn to alternative methods to heat our homes. While these methods may be more cost effective for us they also increase the risk of starting a fire. Here SERVPRO of Aitkin, Carlton & West St. Louis Counties we have 7 tips to help prevent fire damage.
- Have your furnace inspected annually to ensure its in good working condition.
- Make sure all heaters and ducting is clear and unobstructed.
- Don’t leave any space heater running while unattended.
- Ensure you have proper working smoke detectors.
- Inspect all extension cords for defects before each use and replace any that are damaged.
- Don’t use a stove or a range to aid in heating your home.
- Plan and practice an escape plan in case of an emergency.
